Formula to calculate the distance between adjacent macros

No of pins x metal pitch
Distance between the macros = -------------------------------
(no of metal layers used /2)

Consider one horizontal and vertical metal layer as one resource.

For 4 ML process, the denominator comes out to 2 and for 6 ML process it comes out to 3.

Finally calculate the value for  two adjacent macros by doubling the above value

hi kanth,
can u be more clear about the metal layers count in denominator of the given formula. .whether they are horizantal or vertical or both . .pls if possible can u provide one figure related to this this context.
thanks,
balu .

Irrelevant of V or H zones . For simplicity just consider the total M layers and divide it by 2. For example if you are having M9 as your design specific 9/2.

No. of pins ex :- 500
Pitch :- 0.2
(500*0.2)/(9/2)= 22 micron .
This is an rough estimation , more practical approach will be according to your company std or get in touch with your designer or TL.

Hi @Bala Krishna, if you have got the answer to your question, could you please post it here?
